Italian machinery manufacturers’ association Assomac has reported a fall in exports in the first nine months of 2024.
Without specifying the amounts of money involved, it said exports of machinery for footwear and leathergoods production were down by more than 22% year on year.
Within this, Assomac pointed out that it had registered falls in exports to key leathergoods and shoe production countries France and Spain of 36.2% and 69.2% respectively.
With regard to tanning technology, it gave a figure of more than 30% for the decline in exports to European leather manufacturers, although there was a slight increase in exports to Asia and Africa.
New Assomac president, Mauro Bergozza, said Italian technology providers remained competitive because of the high levels of quality and innovation in their products. But he added that, to maintain this competitiveness, technology providers will have to continue to invest in advanced technology.
