Feltre, a specialist tannery technology provider, has acquired what’s been reported as “a significant” share of Wega, a provider of electronic measuring machines, each designed to meet specific requirements in the different leather processing stages.

The partnership between the two Italian companies aims to produce cutting-edge technological solutions, improving efficiency and quality in production processes.

The two businesses say their combined expertise will lead to the development of machines capable of optimising every stage of leather processing.

Meanwhile, in the US, Tannin Corporation, a wet end leather chemical, bisulphate and fat liquor manufacturer and distributor, has taken over fat liquor manufacturer Whittemore-Wright, with the objective of becoming “a leader in the production of wax, oil and fat liquor for US leather”.

Speaking about the acquisition, Charles M Hoyt III, president of Whittemore-Wright, said: “This announcement is bittersweet for the Hoyt family as production of fattening products at Whittemore-Wright Company in Charlestown ceases. At the same time, we are excited to work closely with Tannin Corporation. We want to continue to produce our products with the same emphasis on quality and customer service that has characterised Whittemore-Wright for over 117 years.”

Tannin Corporation’s acquisition of Whittemore-Wright follows on from its 2017 acquisition of subsidiary Marden-Wild. Marden-Wild has manufactured tanning oils and fat liquors for more than 75 years.
