Jianzhong Ma (male, born in May 1960, Qinshui, Shanxi, China) is a doctor, professor and doctoral supervisor. His research focuses on (1) multifunctional nanocomposites and sustainable eco-friendly high-performance chemicals for leather industry, (2) functional materials chemistry, (3) synthesis theory and structure-property relationships of organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials.

Prof. Jianzhong Ma was the president of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology (SUST), the convener of Light Industry Technology and Engineering Subject Consultative Group of the Ministry of Education of the P. R. China, the vice chairman of China National Instructive Committee of Light Industrial Education, and the director of the Academic Committee of SUST. At present, he is the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the honorary director of the Technical Committee of China Leather Industry Association, the member of Shaanxi Decision-making Advisory Committee of Shaanxi province, the deputy director of the Academic Committee of SUST, and the consultant of Xi'an Municipal Government, etc.

Prof. Jianzhong Ma has received over 20 awards over the course of his career, including 2nd Prize of State Technological Invention Award, State Council of the P.R. China (2010), 2nd Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, State Council of the P.R. China (2006), 2nd Prize of National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education, Ministry of Education of the P.R. China (2018), Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation of Ho-Leung-Ho-Lee Foundation, The Selection Board of Ho-Leung-Ho-Lee Foundation (2016), 1st Prize of Shannxi Province Science and Technology Award, the People's Government of Shaanxi Province (2018 and 2009), etc.

Prof. Jianzhong Ma was the project leader of more than 30 external funding, such as the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, the National Basic Research Program of China, the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Key Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China and the International Science and Technology Cooperation Program of China, etc.

Prof. Jianzhong Ma has published more than 400 articles on the prestigious international peer-reviewed journals, such as Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Chemical Engineering Journal, etc. 7 of them are ESI Highly Cited Papers. He holds more than 90 Chinese patents, 3 American patents, 1 British patent and 2 German patents. He has published 9 works as chief editor in his research field. More than 20 kinds of functional materials, such as tanning agents, retanning agents, finishing agents, fatliquoring agents and other products he developed have been applied and sold worldwide.

Prof. Jianzhong Ma has won many honors such as Advanced Individual in Scientific and Technological Innovation of China Light Industry Federation during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2012) and 12th Five-Year Plan (2016), Outstanding Contribution Award of China Leather Industry of China Leather Industry Association (2013), Meritorious Service Award in China Leather Industry (2018), etc.
